12 signs you could be an ENTREPRENEUR

1. Hate the Status Quo – It doesn't make sense
to you that something has been done the time-
honored way with no explanation why.
You are
not someone who wants to just go through the
motions or sit by idly. Nor do you like following
the pack.

2. Easily Bored - You find yourself easily bored,
and others start viewing you as a problem. But
nothing is wrong with you except that you are
bored with activities that aren't up to your
abilities and aren't challenging. That's why you
hated most of the classes you ever attended.
Think Bill Gates who dropped out of college to
become one of the richest men in the world.

3. Fired from Jobs – You're too creative for your
own good when it comes to working for others,
and you may have some history, as I do, of losing
jobs. Being just a cog in wheel is very difficult for
you because you want to create something others
can be inspired by and contribute to.

4. Labeled a Rebel - You know that greatness
resides outside the lines of conformity and don't
think that policies, laws and regulations apply to
you. You have been described as a rebel and rule
breaker and would defy gravity if you could.

5. Resist Authority - You have a lifelong record of
resisting authority from your parents, teachers
and bosses. You don't go along with the agreed
upon norms of the group or community you work
and live in.

6. Ready to Improve Everything - You always
see how you could do things better. In addition,
you are opinionated and freely give your two-
cents about your better way of doing things--even
when you're not asked.

7. Bad at Making Small Talk - You have difficulty
making the kind of small talk that so many people
get comfort from. This social pattern of
relationship and rapport building seems like a
waste of time to you and makes you
uncomfortable.

8. Bullied in Your Youth - You may have been
heavily criticized, picked on and even bullied as a
child or teenager. This has caused you to be
driven to excel and to prove to the world that you
are indeed a force to be reckoned with.

9. Obsessive - You may have been labeled
obsessive/compulsive because when you get
started on something you have difficulty letting
go. Don't let anyone convince you that this is a
disease or deficiency. All of the great
entrepreneurs become completely immersed in
their vision. Howard Schultz stuck with Starbucks
even when his family tried to persuade him not
to.

10. Scared to Go Solo - The entrepreneur in you is
scared of going out on your own—and also
terrified of not doing so. This fear is so common
in our society because we've been conditioned to
think that entrepreneurship is much riskier than
getting a "good job." The reality is there is
instability in both.

11. Unable to Unwind - You can't go to sleep at
night because you can't turn your thoughts off. An
idea may even manifest itself in your dreams. The
next morning you find yourself still consumed
with that idea, distracting you from the job you're
supposed to be doing.

12. Don't Fit the Norm - You have always been a
bit uncomfortable in your own skin. Until you get used to the idea
that you are in fact different
from most people, it could prove to be a
problem--or exactly the motivation you need to
acknowledge the entrepreneur screaming to get

George Washington’s 5 Lessons of Entrepreneurship

The Founding Father's entrepreneurial instincts can still guide innovators today.

George Washington was among the most successful businessmen of his day. Raised in a single-parent home and bereft of formal education, he nevertheless parleyed a modest inheritance into what was by the time of his death one of the grandest estates in North America.

The odds were against him. Washington came of age under an oppressive colonial system that discouraged entrepreneurship and fostered debt. His increasingly passionate belief in economic freedom motivated his efforts to break free of this system, both personally and as an American patriot.

Guiding his country through eight years of debilitating war followed by a

lengthy period of economic instability, Washington managed simultaneously to set the United States on the road to prosperity and ensure that Mount Vernon became a center of agricultural and technological innovation. Five principles that inspired his accomplishments may still serve to guide entrepreneurs in the twenty-first century:

Decisiveness. As a young entrepreneur in the 1760s Washington recognized that the colonial tobacco economy, which had been in place for over a century but operated on credit, stifled innovation and reduced Americans to debt slavery. After careful research, he moved decisively to abandon tobacco and change over his estate to the cultivation of wheat. The gamble paid off, not only making Mount Vernon self-sufficient but transforming it into a regional center of production.
Innovation. Technology fascinated Washington. He tinkered ceaselessly but never aimlessly. A firm believer in experimentation, he tested tools with a view to their capacity to save labor and boost productivity. Among other cutting-edge technologies, he installed at Mount Vernon an advanced gristmill that allowed him to produce high-quality "G. Washington" brand flour and even market it overseas.
Communication. After the Revolutionary War ended in 1783, Washington recognized that Great Britain—then in the early stages of the Industrial Revolution—was on the cusp of becoming a global economic powerhouse. He not only read the works of visionaries like Adam Smith, but fostered personal relationships with pioneering British innovators such as Arthur Young. Washington became a hero of the British manufacturing community as he worked to disseminate knowledge and promote trade.
Calculated Risk-Taking. Martha quickly cured her husband of his youthful affinity for gambling at cards and billiards, but his entrepreneurial mind remained attuned to the thrill of the dice. Shortly after his retirement Washington's Scottish farm manager James Anderson approached him with the seemingly reckless proposal to build a whiskey distillery at Mount Vernon. Previously ignorant of the industry, Washington researched it carefully and decided to risk a significant investment. The distillery quickly became one of his most profitable enterprises.
Attention to Detail. Washington kept astonishingly meticulous accounts. He also insisted on understanding personally how every operation on his estate worked from bottom to top. At any given moment, thanks to his demands for detailed reports and his frequent rides around Mount Vernon, he intimately understood every aspect of his diverse and far-flung enterprise. This attention to fundamentals was a bedrock of his success.

Meet Kenya’s 22-year-old CEO Who Built A Multi-Million Business In 6 Months!

Meet Kenya's 22-year-old CEO Who Built A Multi-Million Business In 6 Months!

Agnes Mulewa Ng'ang'a looks like she has just stepped out of a glam magazine. She has the poise of a model and a radiant smile that lights up her face.

This 22-year-old is quickly becoming one of Kenya's rising entrepreneurs. She is the chief executive officer of International Brand Solutions (IBS).

The firm worth over Sh6 million, is a fast growing research marketing company that is involved in rebranding to easily meet the market demand and the right audience. Born and brought up in Kawangware slums, Ng'ang'a probably had no clue what her life would turn out to be.

However, she knew she had an investor's blood flowing in her veins. At the age of seven, this visionary daughter of a civil servant would use her pocket money to purchase pencils at Sh3 and sell them at a higher price of Sh5 to her fellow classmates and save the profits.

This habit continued for the rest of her primary level classes until she got a scholarship to join Ngara Girls High School after passing with flying colours. She used her savings to help her single mum in meeting their daily basic needs.

From selling pencils to eggs in her upper primary, the discipline of saving from her profits taught her some of the critical lessons of being an entrepreneur. "My parents separated when I was young, my dad left, remarried and started a new family.

So we did not have a proper father-daughter relationship, but that did not stop me from achieving my dreams. I chose to focus and promised myself that one day I would not let any other girl like me lack what I lacked," she says.

When we met for the interview by the poolside at her home, Mulewa said her company has worked for some startups in the country including instyle, Sufuria.com, Atlas, Cake-city and Plumbing Doctors.

Having achieved good results in this sector, IBS is now targeting top local companies such as Safaricom and Airtel with an aim of increasing their clients with research market findings.

Six months down the line the firm with only six employees, according to its latest accounts, has already made profits of over Sh1 million.

Despite these achievements, Mulewa, now a fourth year student at Strathmore University doing a Bachelor's degree in Business and Information Technology, says one of the hurdles they face is the unwillingness of a company to face up to the fact that they need to rebrand despite there being convincing reasons that their means of operations are not helping them hit their profit targets.

Another challenge is the fact that the period given to them by some companies to complete their work is not enough hence having a big impact on their ability to complete their mandate. The question of her age as a vision bearer of IBS can also sometimes be a challenge.

"There is no law prohibiting youthfrom becoming billionaires at a young age, stereotyping of wealth associated to the youth should stop, beauty aside – who said that a woman cannot climb up a ladder without connections from a godfather?" she poses.

That is why Mulewa has started a girl empowerment programme to mentor those who want to get into business. "There is a gap in the society, because the current generation of girls is not well groomed for the future.

My target audience in this journey is mainly women and girls in their discovery point of life," she clarifies. She says girls should give the same attention they give to beauty and fame to education and advancing their professional career.

They offer professional mentorship to all the girls and walk the talk by helping them achieve their dreams.

ABOUT: Holy G Pastries is basically a Ministry and less of a business. A vision and an idea birthed through much prayers and travailing. It also was born out of my allergy to sugar and fat.

AIM: She ( HOLY G PASTRIES) seeks to produce a platform for healthy snack/pastry intake. Through much observations, she has noted the high percentage of fat and cholesterol (junk) in take of which should be done in moderation as many kids tend to be obsessed, unhealthy and affected earlier or later as they grow.
As earlier said, it is more of a vision were those who are Ill would actually taste of what we make through the unction of the Holy Spirit and get healed.
In future time she seeks to ensure that souls be won through the employment of those who have lost all hope and believe of whom God is. (Psalm 34:8).
The company in future also seeks to dedicate itself to the work of charity and mission as it expanses.

ADVICE: Though an egg or batter needs to be thoroughly stirred, it still can not ensure the beauty and sweetness of a cake until the flour response positively to the beating of the egg or batter.

Learn new time management tricks and what you can do with your time.

Time management series

Developing time management skills is a journey
that may begin with this Guide, but needs practice
and other guidance along the way.

One goal is to help yourself become aware of how
you use your time
as one resource in organizing, prioritizing, and succeeding in your studies in the context of competing activities of friends,
work, family, etc.

First: try our exercise in time management:
How do you spend your time each day?
Strategies on using time:
These applications of time management have proven
to be effective as good study habits.

As we go through each strategy, jot down an idea of
what each will look like for you:

Blocks of study time and breaks

As your school term begins and your course schedule
is set, develop and plan for, blocks of study time in a
typical week. Blocks ideally are around 50 minutes,
but perhaps you become restless after only 30
minutes? Some difficult material may require more
frequent breaks. Shorten your study blocks if
necessary-but don't forget to return to the task at
hand! What you do during your break should give
you an opportunity to have a snack, relax, or
otherwise refresh or re-energize yourself. For
example, place blocks of time when you are most
productive: are you a morning person or a night
owl?
Jot down one best time block you can study. How
long is it? What makes for a good break for you?

Can you control the activity and return to your
studies?

Dedicated study spaces
Determine a place free from distraction (no cell
phone or text messaging!) where you can maximize
your concentration and be free of the distractions that friends or hobbies can bring! You should also have a back-up space that you can escape to, like the library, departmental study center, even a coffee shop where you can be anonymous. A change of venue may also bring extra resources.

What is the best study space you can think of?
What is another?
Weekly reviews
Weekly reviews and updates are also an important
strategy. Each week, like a Sunday night, review
your assignments, your notes, your calendar. Be mindful that as deadlines and exams approach, your weekly routine must adapt to them!

What is the best time in a week you can review?

Prioritize your assignments
When studying, get in the habit of beginning with the
most difficult subject or task. You'll be fresh, and
have more energy to take them on when you are at
your best. For more difficult courses of study, try to
be flexible: for example, build in reaction time
when you can get feedback on assignments before
they are due.

What subject has always caused you problems?
Achieve "stage one"--get something done!

The Chinese adage of the longest journey starting
with a single step has a couple of meanings:

First, you launch the project! Second, by starting, you may
realize that there are some things you have not planned for in your process. Details of an assignment are not always evident until you begin the assignment. Another adage is that "perfection is
the enemy of good", especially when it prevents you
from starting! Given that you build in review,
roughly draft your idea and get going! You will have
time to edit and develop later.

What is a first step you can identify for anbassignment to get yourself started?

Postpone unnecessary activities until the work is
done! Postpone tasks or routines that can be put off untilvyour school work is finished!
This can be the most difficult challenge of time
management.
As learners we always meet unexpected opportunities that look appealing, then result in poor performance on a test, on a paper, or in preparation for a task. Distracting activities will
be more enjoyable later without the pressure of the
test, assignment, etc. hanging over your head. Think
in terms of pride of accomplishment. Instead of
saying "no" learn to say "later".

What is one distraction that causes you to stop
studying?

Identify resources to help you
Are there tutors? An expert friend? Have you tried a
keyword search on the Internet to get better
explanations? Are there specialists in the library
that can point you to resources? What about
professionals and professional organizations. Using outside resources can save you time and energy, and
solve problems.
Write down three examples for that difficult subject above?
Be as specific as possible.

Use your free time wisely

Think of times when you can study "bits" as when
walking, riding the bus, etc.
Perhaps you've got music to listen to for your course in music appreciation, or drills in language learning? If you are walking or biking to school, when best to listen?
Perhaps you are in a line waiting? Perfect for
routine tasks like flash cards, or if you can concentrate, to read or review a chapter. The bottom line is to put your time to good use.

What is one example of applying free time to
your studies?

Review notes and readings just before class
This may prompt a question or two about something
you don't quite understand, to ask about in class, or
after. It also demonstrates to your teacher that you are interested and have prepared.

How would you make time to review?

Is there free time you can use?
Review lecture notes just after class Then review lecture material immediately after
class.

The first 24 hours are critical. Forgetting is greatest within 24 hours without review!

How would you do this?
Is there free time you can use?
Select one of the ten applications above.
and develop a new study habit

Try something you have a good chance of following
through and accomplishing.
Nothing succeeds like a first successful try!

Effective aids:
Create a simple "To Do" list

This simple program will help you identify a few
items, the reason for doing them, a timeline for
getting them done, and then printing this simple list
and posting it for reminders.
Daily/weekly planner
Write down appointments, classes, and meetings on
a chronological log book or chart.
If you are more visual, sketch out your schedule

First thing in the morning, check what's ahead for
the day always go to sleep knowing you're prepared for
tomorrow Long term planner Use a monthly chart so that you can plan ahead.

Long term planners will also serve as a reminder to
constructively plan time for yourself using the
Time management series
